Michael Voss to produce solo album project by Paul Shortino
Producer Michael Voss has signed on with AOR Heaven to produce the forthcoming album by veteran rocker, Paul Shortino.
Paul Shortino's musical career includes Rough Cutt, Quiet Riot, The Cutt and portraying "Duke Fame" in the infamous cult classic movie hit, "This Is Spinal Tap". Paul has toured the world extensively throughout his career, always finding great success with his German fans. Going forward, Paul opted to develop projects on his own, often mixing it up with a veritable hard rock "who's who" of virtuoso players. Venturing into a diverse array of endeavors suited Shortino, and it's the career model he's stayed with up to the present. "The new project with Michael stems from my inclusion on the upcoming album release "Voices of Rock". Georg Siegl of AOR Heaven offered me a solo deal. I knew I had to jump on board. I am excited to be working with Michael and AOR Heaven," said Shortino.
The album will be released in June 2009.

Paul and I have known each other since we worked together on the fourth QUIET RIOT "QR" release. When I first heard Paul sing the Janis Joplin classic "Piece Of My Heart" I couldn't believe that he had done such a wonderful interpretation of the original. Paul was my obvious choice for this vocal. His smokey Jack Daniels and cigarette tone was perfect for the verses but he also has the range to carry the upper register vocal on the choruses which this song demanded. Paul was wonderful on this track.

MTV relief telethon this Saturday...
This Saturday Sept. 10th starting at 8PM ET/PT MTV will be airing "ReAct Now: Music & Relief". Ryan & I will be performing a song acoustically with Linkin Park's Chester Bennington. This stripped down electro acoustic version, arranged especially for this event, will be the first preview of Chester's new solo material that Julien-K has been working on. Please tune in and donate to this important cause to aid in relief for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

We've just found out that Paul Shortino JR. is auditioning for American Idol in Denver on September 11th. PLEASE, everyone keep your fingers crossed, he has a lot of talent. As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! For those of you who have never heard Paul Jr. sing, just give this a listen "Love of My Life" it's a duet between father & son

Well, it's definitely been a while since we've posted anything, but we have some exciting news!

We've got a new project on the go here at Musicworks...

It will be a hard rocking, heavy metal CD with some Thrash for flavor.

In honor of Paul's brother Joe who passed away a February 20, 2005, we have created a website dedicated to his memory. This will be a work in progress during the next week or so, but please feel free to visit it and learn all about Joe and what a wonderful man he really was. There are some great tributes to him, plus I've posted two songs which Paul sang at his funeral, "Really Gonna Miss You" & "In My Life", personally, I've never heard Paul sing with so much compassion. These songs can be listened to online, but not downloaded (sorry about that!).

It is with great sadness that Paul Shortino advised us today that his dear brother, Joe, died yesterday of a massive coronary, he was just 48. He is survived by his wife Lynn, son Joey 30, daughter Krysta 22, daughter Gina 21, son Anthony 19, son Daniel 8 and son Raymond 6. Paul's brother was a Sheriff for Los Angeles County. Paul was VERY close to his brother and his family he will be sadly missed by ALL.
Please take a moment and join us in saying a prayer for Joe Shortino.

The Rock 4 X-MAS Foundation brings its 8^th Annual Rock & Roll show to New York.

This year the event will be held at The Kings Club, Centereach, L.I. 631-716-2582 For Details. All proceeds will go to the Nassau, Suffolk Coalition for the Homeless & The Fire / Rescue Widows & Children Fund of Long Island.

For anyone unfamiliar with this annual event, Morrison Music & Production organizes shows to benefit less fortunate families at Christmas. Over the past eight years the Rock 4 X-MAS Foundation has helped many families and provided entertainment throughout the United States. Many Rock Legends have joined with the foundation in putting on memorable concerts to help the cause.

The performance this year will include members from Paul Shortino, Yngwie Malmsteen, Zebra, Quiet Riot, DIO, W.A.S.P., Great White, Mountain, Orleans, Geezer Butler Band & Public Secret, Beyond Blonde, Fallen Angel, Ira Black, Dan Acosta & Jake Live. FAMED HARD ROCK VOCAL STAR PAUL SHORTINO TO FRONT THE BAND HEAVEN & EARTH AT JULY 4TH GALA AT WOODLAND HILLS’ VALLEY CULTURAL CENTER

Los Angeles, June 29, 2004: Renowned to many as the outrageous Duke Fame in the quintessential rockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, veteran hard rocker Paul Shortino is best known for his stellar vocal pyrotechnics with Rough Cutt and Quiet Riot. Over the years, he’s also won acclaim for a diverse array of independent projects and collaborations, and next week, he’ll perform in concert with the blues-fueled rock band Heaven & Earth, whose forthcoming album Screaming For Redemption features Shortino on lead vocals. The special show is part of the 3rd Annual July Fourth Extravaganza at the Valley Cultural Center in Woodland Hills, CA. Shortino and Heaven & Earth are expected to take the stage around 7:30PM, with fireworks following their set (for details, log onto www.valleycultural.org).

Shortino, with J. T. Garrett, wrote “Freedom” during sessions for his last album, Paul Shortino’s The CUTT: Sacred Place, released in 2002. He ultimately felt the track, a blues & country-influenced rocker, wasn’t right for that hard rock tour de force, which Shortino describes as “Plant & Page meet Soundgarden meet Aerosmith.” “Freedom” will instead make its album debut on Paul’s next solo CD, currently in progress, and the single—featuring a guitar-driven version plus a take with an added violin track—is available now through www.paulshortino.com and www.musicworks1.com.

Although there are no direct lyrical references, “Freedom” was originally inspired by the events of September 11th. The heartfelt song is a tribute to the fallen and the heroes from that day, our troops serving around the globe, and the freedom our nation celebrates on Independence Day. Shortino felt that a musical salute to freedom on the 4th of July is the perfect way to honor the American spirit.

In addition to recording his own material, Shortino is busy with the production company MusicWorks Entertainment and affiliated label Rock Quarry Records that he recently launched with keyboardist, entrepreneur and longtime friend J.T. Garrett. Rock Quarry’s first-ever release, Simplexity, the Shortino-produced debut album from alt-rockers Level, is available now.

UPDATE June 23, 2004

Heaven & Earth has been in the studio writing and recording tracks for their new CD, to be released later this year, which will be entitled Screaming For Redemption. Paul Shortino is the new vocalist. The band has recorded an eight song limited pressing EP which will be released at a show the band is playing to 35,000 people in Woodland Hills, CA on July 4th. The line-up for the show will be Paul Shortino (ROUGH CUTT) on vocals, Stuart Smith on guitar, Richie Onori on drums, Dave Chamberlain on bass and Scott Warren (WARRANT, DIO) on keyboards.

The EP and the next CD will be released on the bands own label Black Star Records which already has worldwide distribution, will announce some exciting new signings over the next couple of months, some you know and some you don't.

On the EP, which will be entitled A Taste Of Heaven, there will be four tracks from the first Heaven & Earth CD and four new songs with vocalist Paul Shortino. The tracks are: ‘Screaming For Redemption’ (Shortino/Smith), ‘Heaven’ (Kyle/Leese/Smith), ‘Nasty Piece Of Work’ (Smith) and ‘It'd Be True’ (Doah, Hansen, Leese, Smith).

In a few weeks Black Star Records will also re-release Stuart Smith's Heaven & Earth with two unheard bonus tracks. Says band founder Stuart Smith, "We're really excited to have our own record company, this is going to be a revolutionary label run by musicians for musicians where the artist will get a fair deal. The idea of the limited pressing EP is to let the people at the show on July 4th have a taste of what the Heaven & Earth sound is about and after so many requests from people all over the world who are finding it hard to get a copy of the first CD as the license has run out for any other labels to press it we'll be glad to get the album that started it all out again. We also have some great artists signing with us which we'll let you know about in the next few weeks."

Hi everyone...

I just want to post the info regarding Ray's funeral.
A service will be held on Wednesday June 16th, 2004 at 1: 00pm in the Sun Rise Chapel located at the Mountain view Cemetery, 2400 N. Fair Oaks, Alta Dena CA. For further information, please call the Chapel at 626-794-7133.

A Jam session is tentatively scheduled for July 15th (subject to change at this point). The response from the music industry has been great, lot's of interest! Once we've got all of the final details we will post them.

It is with great sadness that we must announce that Musicworks beloved friend, and very own session drummer, Ray Hernandez passed away on May 29th, 2004 due to multiple organ failure. Ray most recently just finished recording all of the drum tracks for the LEVEL Simplexity CD along with the Paul Shortino track FREEDOM.

Ray is survived by his wife Debbie Starr-Hernandez.
